— Brief Introduction

Firstly, let’s review 4 back-face cases of the custom pins (using existing design with existing molds):

There are three main applications on the back-faces: 1. Lines Effect (Includes Leather Lines & Checked Lines), 2. Electronic Spark (Dull Polished Effect), and 3. Smooth Face Effect.

—Regular Collocation:

–Soft Enamel Pins & Hard Enamel Pins + Lines Effect Back-faces

A back-face with lines effect has a better sense of concavo-convex; the application will be more conducive to the overall matching of the custom pins;

–Metal Pins/3D Cast Pins/Large Size Pins + Electronic Spark Back-faces

A back-face with an electronic spark has the frosted effect; the collocation will look more textured;

–Offset Printed Pins + Smooth Face Effect Back-faces

Due to craft work limited; the collocation will look natural, poised, and clean at the same time;

Meanwhile, except for craft work limited, you can combine the style and back-face for your preference, the effect with existing mold are all free for your option;

—Customized Marking Options

On the above-mentioned bases, you can also customize the design of the back faces (Lines, Patterns, Characters, Numbers).

—Option 1:  Marking by Mold Stamping (use newly-made mold)

Making a new back-face mold according to the customer’s design, the new back-face mold is used in the first process of production, stamping, or die-casting on the back-face of the metalwork; all custom pins apply the same design with the same mold. The raised back marking is mainly applied for uniform formulae design, such as company name, logo, website, and phone number (small area only).

—Option 2:  Marking by Laser Engraving

Laser engraving is a surface finish process, printing the words or pattern on the products, it is a kind of optical principle surface finish process, showing the required etched words or pattern; the laser engraving back marking is no need of a new mold, on the basis of end-products, engraving handling the custom pins one by one; it is requested the corresponding flat, non-patterned location be left in advance. It is mainly applied for personal tailor design, every custom pin has a different engraving back marking, such as a unique serial number, different names, etc (small area only).

Application Example：

If you need to create the custom pins with different names for your students or staffs, if you use the marking of mold stamping option so that each name need a set of newly-made mold, then the laser engraving is your best affordable choice;

-In-depth Introduction

-A. Lines Effect and Electronic Spark Effect mainly relate to the die struck or die casting process;

–Die struck is a process of the metal block being processed by the mold mounted on the press machine producing separation or plastic deformation to the metal block so that obtain the required parts.

1. They used existing molds or newly-made molds for back-face is placed at the upper mold position;
2. The mold with already engraved lines effect (includes checked lines & leather lines) or your special customized raised backing marking;

–Die casting is the process of pouring the molten metal into the metal mold, applying an external force to the mold while the liquid is transformed into a solid.

Note: The back-face is electronically sparked with a dull polished effect; a thick film is formed and covered on the custom pins back-face with an electronic spark finish.

-B. The smooth Face Effect mainly relates to the offset printing process;

Attention: the lines effect or the electronic spark is not available for the offset printed pins;

1. The offset printing technology will use to print the design of the surface directly onto the metal base and cut out to the needed shape.
2. No need of die struck or die-cast process, and if the process is used, the artwork’s surface will be destroyed after stamping;

Note: The ready-made metal base already has a smooth face with wire-drawing processed;
In a word, expect craft work limited, the actual application on the back faces (make a new mold or not) will all be in accordance with your needs and preferences.
