Kent State University<\/span><\/h2>\n

As we can see, it is not an uncommon phenomenon for students to further their education abroad in this highly globalized world. Right now, I will introduce a university called Kent State University, which is a College of Aeronautics and Engineering.<\/p>\n

Kent State University\u00a0(KSU) is a large, primarily residential,\u00a0public\u00a0research university in Kent, Ohio, United States.\u00a0It also covers some areas in\u00a0Northeast Ohio and additional facilities at home and abroad. Regional campuses are located in Ashtabula, Burton, East Liverpool, Jackson Township, New Philadelphia, Salem, and Warren, Ohio, with other facilities in Cleveland, Independence, and Twinsburg, Ohio, New York City, and Florence, Italy. The university was founded in 1910 as a school to train teachers. The first classes were held in 1912 and the first buildings of the\u00a0original campus\u00a0opened in 1913. Since then, the university has developed to include many additional baccalaureate and graduate programs of study in the fields of arts and sciences, research opportunities, as well as over 1,000 acres (405\u00a0ha) and 119 buildings on the Kent campus.<\/p>\n

As of September 2016, Kent State is one of the largest universities in Ohio with 40,782 students in its eight campuses. It is ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as one of the top 77 public research universities in the US and one of the top 76 in community engagement. In 2010, Kent State was ranked as one of the top 200 universities in the world by\u00a0Times Higher Education. Kent State offers over 300-degree programs, among them 250\u00a0baccalaureates, 40\u00a0associate\u2019s, 50\u00a0master\u2019s, and 23\u00a0doctoral\u00a0programs of study,\u00a0which include such notable programs as nursing, business, history,\u00a0library science, aeronautics, journalism, fashion design, and the\u00a0Liquid Crystal Institute.<\/p>\n

However, it was on May 4, 1970, that this university\u00a0attracted attention in the world. A shocking and tragic shooting event had happened here. On that day, an\u00a0Ohio Army National Guard\u00a0unit fired at students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four and wounding nine. The Guard had been called into Kent after several violent protests in and around campus. The main cause of the protests was the United States’\u00a0invasion of Cambodia during the\u00a0Vietnam War.\u00a0The shootings resulted in a closure of the campus. Around the country, many college campuses canceled classes or closed for fear of similar violent protests.\u00a0In Kent, schools were closed and the National Guard restricted entry into the city limits, keeping patrolling the area until May 8. Incidences like above were out of everyone\u2019s expectation and deserved people to rethink profoundly.<\/p>\n
