2.1 Sword Beach

At 5:30 in the morning, the Battleship Belfast became one of the first warships to fire at the Germans stationed in Normandy.

In 1945, Belfast set off for the Far East Fleet to participate in the Pacific Battle. At this time, Japan officially surrendered, Belfast did not play a role in the war, but even so, Belfast is still active in the Far East. At sea – at this time, she was mainly responsible for peacekeeping operations and played a big role in guarding Chinese prisoners captured by the Japanese army. 2.3 Airborne Landings

The landing craft had to unload the personnel, vehicles and materials in the shallow waters, and touched the mines when returning, suffering serious losses. The Canadian soldiers who landed on the beach crossed the beach and were killed by the Germans in the sand dunes. They were once suppressed by the Germans. Fortunately, the Allied Naval Gunfire and the amphibious tank assistance were timely and broke through the German defense.

The Regiment traded its horses for jeeps and amphibious assault vehicles in February of 1943, reorganizing partly under cavalry organizations and infantry organizations. That’s the origin of the nickname –Thunderhorse. Strong and fast same as the thunder horse.

In October 2006, 2nd Battalion deployed as part of 4th BCT, 1st Cavalry Division out of Ft. Bliss Texas to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The battalion was attached to 2nd BCT, 1st Infantry Division in western Baghdad to join the Operation.

After Operation Iraqi Freedom II, the 12th Cavalry Regiment underwent a major transition and combined with the regiment to create the battalions currently in service.

The words such as “cave-in”, or “mine disaster” inevitably call to mind the coal-mining regions. The Argonaut is the site of the worst gold mining disaster in California History.

85 years ago, the Gold Country was the scene of the deadliest recorded mine disaster in California, with similarities to other mine explosion accidents.

On a hot summer night in 1922, fire and toxic gas ripped through a mine shaft nearly a mile beneath the surface, trapping 47 miners. The incident at the Argonaut Gold Mine in Jackson, about 30 miles from Sutter’s Mill in Coloma.

The above custom coins detail the fire of Argonaut gold mine, which trapped 47 miners 4,650 feet below ground in that summer. It took rescuers three weeks to get to where the miners were trapped by the fire.
