Dear Diary,

A few days ago, The committee gave me a task to purchase some custom medals within a limited budget. Their only requirement is unique and personalized. I was happy but a little worried. Personalized is a broad meaning. How can I make sure that my custom medals are personalized? I asked a lot of custom company and I have some ideas from GS-JJ company.

At first, I just said what I wanted about my custom medals and told them that I had a limited budget. Then, I asked them: ” is there any way to personalize my medals?”. I knew that it was maybe difficult for many companies. After all, the budget was limited. However, the suggestions that they gave me made me believe that everything is possible.

If being personalized, there are two main ways to get. It’s not about complex design but a combination of 4 materials and 5 crafts. YES! They told me.

A) 3 Materials Combination

Usually, metal is a wonderful material to make medals, glass is second, and wooden is last. By and large, single material is chosen for producing medals because people always think that simplicity is beauty. But why not break the pattern?

        a) Metal + Wooden

The metal and wooden combination is inlaid.

Advantages: Environmental, short manufacture cycle, and Personalized

Disadvantages: Easy to be corrosive in wet conditions.

       b) Metal + Glass

The metal and glass combination is like a strip of mild steel.

Advantages: Soft, Shiny and Personalized

Disadvantages: fragile when being thrown.

A) Size

The automated quotation system at GS-JJ is humanized. The inches area is from 1.5 inches to 4 inches. Along with the medal size, your ribbon size is different. As we can see, the bigger medal is, the bigger the size is! This is for your comfort level and safety. Too small ribbon and big medal will make your neck heavy. If you are not satisfied with the market size, you can contact the salesman to select your favorable size. By and large, the medal is under the chest muscles.

B) The Color

There are three designs for you to choose from.

1) Pure Color Ribbons

Usually, pure color ribbons are suitable for antique medals and shiny medals because they are designed without color. Pure color can fuse them. Black, white, red, and blue is both popular colors.

Mix color ribbons are appropriate for soft enamel medals and hard enamel medals. Especially for colored medals, it will make your medals shinier. There are two kinds of mixed ribbons. One is three colors alternated like red-white-blue ribbon, others are two colors alternated like white and orange ribbon.

3) Gradient Color Ribbons / Rainbow Ribbons

This kind of ribbon is nice for medals with many colors. Rainbow ribbons are popular among running medals. Multi-color will attract people’s eyes. Medals without color are not suitable, which will be a little strange. If your custom medals are colorful, why not try this ribbon?

C) The Design

1) Polyester Ribbon
Polyester Ribbon is a simple design. The price is cheap.
2) Woven Ribbon
Woven ribbon can be printed logo and text because these are knitted and durable. But it is a little expensive. If you have a limited budget, you can give up it.
3) Nylon Ribbon
The nylon ribbon is a little smoother. Simple texts and logos can be printed. However, it is a little formal.
4) Dye Sublimated Ribbon
Dye Sublimated Ribbon is very suitable and smooth. When you wear it, your neck will feel cool. The logo and text dyed are vivid. However, It has poor air permeability.

The smooth back can make your products more shiny and refreshing and can reflect lights. While it is easy to have a scratch in custom medals if the area is too large. Of course, except for that, a smooth back can show your products. Smooth Back is used in the soft enamel or hard enamel medals.

2) Electronic Spark

Electronic Spark is common in the back of personalized medals. Discharge treatment will have a sandblast effect. It will make your products have a texture.

3) Dermatoglyphics

Dermatoglyphics will make your products more like a bump. In antique medals, it is used broadly. It is more combined with the front design.

4) Laser Engraving

If you feel that the back is too simple and wants to add some texts, Laser engraving is a good way. It doesn’t affect the surface of the product. But remember: engraving needs to be done on the flat surface. Hand engraving is special and it can add some color.

Notes: If you want to add different texts or names in the back of medals, GS-JJ recommends you choose laser engraving. Because laser engraving will save you costs because you just pay the extra fees without other mold fees.

5) Two-Tone Medals

If you think that single medals cannot present your information, selecting two-tone medals is suitable. Although it is expensive, the two-tone medals are more delicate from each side.

In custom medals, back effects default. On most occasions, if there is no specific requirement, GS-JJ will choose electronic spark effects without fees. It all depends on your needs!
