Description

Parasaurolophus, meaning "almost a crowned lizard", is a genus of hadrosaur that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period, about 76 to 73 million years ago. The fossils of Parasaurolophus were found in Alberta, New Mexico, and Utah. Parasaurolophus is a herbivorous dinosaur, and its crest is hollow, with a tube from the nostril to the end of the crown, then back to the back of the head, extending into the inside of the skull. Because of the crown's hollowness, scientists believe it resembles a trumpet and suggest that Parasaurolophus is the most vocal dinosaur.
