Every year, November 1st and 2nd are the traditional dates for the Day of the Dead in Mexico. The Day of the Dead is one of the grandest and most unique festivals in Mexico. Native Mexicans believe that death is not a sad thing. Instead, they welcome the spirits of loved ones home with songs, dances, and colorful celebrations. After the Spanish colonists arrived in Mexico, Western traditions were blended with local indigenous customs, gradually shaping the Day of the Dead as it is celebrated today. In 2003, UNESCO recognized the Mexican Day of the Dead as an intangible cultural heritage. Today, on the Day of the Dead, large-scale parades and celebrations are held across Mexico.
